Berlin is a top city for sport and football championships are a big tradition here: Since 1985, the men’s DFB Cup finale has been held in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium each year. 2006 saw the FIFA World Cup come to Germany and images of cheering football fans in the fan zone at Brandenburg Gate went around the world. A major highlight in 2015 was the hosting of the men’s and women’s final matches for the UEFA Champions League in Berlin. On 6 June 2015, the two best men’s teams in Europe faced off, while the women took to the pitch to battle it out three weeks earlier on 14 May.
