Furthermore the city's professional football clubs - which are Hertha BSC Berlin and 1. FC Union Berlin - deliver high class football on most every weekend.

The Olympic Stadium is the home of Hertha BSC, who can look back at a rich history and have once again been at the top of their game since the 2013-14 season. It is spine tingling as the fans of Hertha BSC Berlin sing their club song with enthusiasm within the historic confines of Berlin's Olympic Stadium.

In addition to Hertha, Berlin's got another top football club: the Eiserne (Ironmen) of Union Berlin hold forth in the second division of the Bundesliga and once again going to try to push their way into the premier league this season. They play their home matches in the Alte Försterei stadium in Berlin's Köpenick district.

Besides the two major league clubs, Berlin has dozens of other football clubs that enjoy success in fourth, fifth and sixth tier leagues. In addition, Berlin also offers many opportunities for amateur and recreational footballers to kick the ball and go for goals, whether on the city's almost countless football fields or in modern indoor halls. And, because football in Berlin is not just a man's game, many clubs are also active in women's and girls' leagues, offering kids the chance to take part from a young age.
